Surgical monitors for medical imaging

During an endoscopic procedure the image on the monitor is the surgeon's view of the working area. A surgical display therefore needs to be selected with the camera system, the room and the way the team will use it in mind. This category covers medical monitors intended for imaging in operating rooms, endoscopy suites and other procedure rooms.

Screen size is only one part of the decision. The viewing distance, image resolution, contrast, color reproduction and the position of the monitor all affect how comfortably the team can work. A large display may be useful in a spacious operating room, while a smaller medical screen can be more practical on a compact endoscopy trolley.

Video sources and connections

Surgical imaging often brings several devices together: a camera head, control unit, light source, monitor and, in some rooms, a recording system. Each component has to pass the appropriate signal to the next. Before choosing a monitor, check the video outputs of the existing camera platform and the inputs supported by the display.

Some clinical settings call for more than one image source, such as endoscopic video alongside another medical feed. Whether the monitor can show separate sources, and how it handles them, is a model-specific matter. The same applies to 4K resolution, built-in image settings and other display functions; these should not be assumed across the entire range.

A monitor that fits the operating room

Mounting is as important as screen quality. The display must sit at a useful height and angle without obstructing staff, sterile areas or other equipment. Consider the trolley or ceiling arm, cable routing, cleaning procedures and space available for adjustment. The monitor's physical dimensions can matter just as much as the stated diagonal size.

Brightfield surgical monitors are intended for use with compatible medical imaging systems. Compare the technical specifications, available ports and mounting options before selecting a model. The most useful choice is the one that gives the surgical team a clear, correctly connected image in the position where they actually need to look.
